How a job runs

FIVE DAYS. FIVE STEPS. NO SURPRISES.

Most residential driveways run to this pattern. You get the dates in writing before we start and the same phone number the whole way through — the bloke who quoted it is the bloke on site.

Bigger jobs, commercial floors and full replacements take longer, and we will tell you exactly how much longer at the quote. What does not change is the order of the work and the fact that prep gets its own full day.

THE FIVE STEPS

  1. 01

    Free on-site quote

    Half an hour, no obligation

We come out, measure the area, and test the slab — tapping for drummy spots, checking crack width and whether they are moving, looking at falls and drainage. You get finishes and colours to look at on the spot, and a written price by email, usually within 48 hours of your call. If the slab is not worth resurfacing we tell you then, not after you have paid a deposit.

What you get: a fixed written price, a start window, and a straight answer on whether resurfacing is the right call.

  2. 02

    Prep and repair

    Day one on site

Diamond grind the whole surface back to sound, clean concrete. Cut out live cracks and re-form them as control joints so they do not telegraph through. Patch spalling and edges, pressure wash, then mask everything that is not getting coated — walls, gutters, garage tracks, the letterbox. This is the day that decides how long the job lasts, and it is the day most cheap quotes skip.

What you will see: a dusty, noisy site and a driveway that looks worse than when we arrived. That is normal.

  3. 03

    Base coat

    Day two

Bonding primer over the whole area, then the base coat sprayed or trowelled to an even build. Stencil is set out and taped down here, or joint lines are snapped and cut if it is a saw-cut pattern. We work to the falls that are already there so water keeps running where it always did.

What you will see: a flat, uniform grey or tinted surface with the pattern laid out on top of it.

  4. 04

    Pattern and colour

    Day three

Colour coats go on — usually two, sometimes three where the tone is deep. Edges are cut in by hand so the line against the house and the garden is clean. Then the stencil is lifted and the grout lines appear. This is the day it stops looking like a worksite.

What you will see: the finished colour and pattern, unsealed, so it looks slightly chalky and lighter than the final result.

  5. 05

    Seal and hand back

    Day four, sometimes five

Two coats of sealer, with non-slip additive through the top coat anywhere it is needed — pool surrounds, ramps, shaded paths. We pull the masking, sweep out, and walk the job with you before we leave. You get a one-page care sheet and our number, not a call centre.

What you get: walk on it the next morning, drive on it about seven days later. Written workmanship warranty by email.

Your part

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • Cars off the slab for the whole run, and somewhere on the street or the verge for our ute and trailer.
  • Water and power — an outside tap and a single power point is plenty.
  • Dogs inside while we are grinding and while the sealer goes off. Paw prints in a fresh colour coat are permanent.
  • Sprinklers off for a week either side, and let us know if a downpipe empties onto the area.
  • A colour decision before we start day one. Change it later and we have to start the colour coats again.

WEATHER AND TIMING

Overlays and sealers will not go down in rain, and they will not cure properly under about 10°C or in the middle of a 38°C afternoon. In a Brisbane summer we start early and stop when the slab gets too hot. In a wet week we push the job rather than force it — a coat laid in the wrong conditions is a coat you pay for twice.

If we move your dates you hear it from us the day before, not on the morning.

READY TO GET IT BOOKED?

Ring and describe the slab, or send a photo. Twenty years in, we can usually tell you on the phone whether it wants resurfacing or replacing — and what the honest range is before anyone comes out.
