WHAT BRISBANE SOUTH CONCRETE ACTUALLY NEEDS
The housing stock south of the river is mostly 1970s to 1990s brick, and it came with plain grey driveways that are now thirty to fifty years old. Nine times out of ten those slabs are structurally fine and just look tired, which makes them the ideal candidate for a decorative overlay rather than a rip-out.
What we watch for down here is reactive clay. Pockets through Calamvale, Parkinson and Algester move enough with the seasons to open settlement cracks along a driveway edge. Those get cut out and stitched before any overlay goes down — cover a live crack and it will telegraph straight back through.
Mount Gravatt and Carindale throw the other local problem at us: steep driveways. On anything over about a 1-in-6 grade we spec a broom-textured or exposed finish with non-slip through the seal coat, because a smooth decorative surface on a slope is no good to anyone in the wet.
